Ute Bock is considered by many to be the Austrian Mother Teresa. For years she has been caring for the poor and the weak, especially for those who have nowher else to turn.
The former social worker donates her entire small private pension to provide a roof and a hot meal for the most disadvantaged, no matter who they are. Thanks also to private donations and the help of volunteers, her charitable organization cares for over 400 people, offering dignity back to people who have lost everything due to wars, drugs or alcohol.
Ute Bock has won several awards and is a frequent guest on television programmes, bearing witness, with her trademark simple lifestyle, of the need to share with those less fortunate.
“I cannot help but intervene,” she says, “when someone, either Austrian or a foreigner, asks for assistance. It makes me sick to see women and children sleeping in the rough in one of the richest countries in the world; and I ask myself why people, who call themselves Christians on Sunday, forget, on Monday, to adhere to their alleged principles.”
