Cambiamenti climatici e Informazione – PlanetNext a Doha COP18
Come ogni anno dal 1995, anche quest’anno si terrà la Conferenza delle Parti dell’UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in cui le delegazioni dei Paesi membri delle Nazioni Unite si ritroveranno per discutere ed eventualmente ratificare accordi su come fronteggiare i cambiamenti climatici. In Qatar, contestualmente alla Conferenza (COP18), così come avviene regolarmente dal 2005, si terrà anche l’ottava edizione di Meetings of Parties of the Kyoto Protocol (MOP).
Siglato nel 1997 a Kyoto, il protocollo è l’unico trattato internazionale vincolante in materia climatica, ma non è stato finora ratificato in sede parlamentare da un numero sufficiente dei paesi firmatari e rischia di diventare lettera morta nel 2013. Doha sembra essere quindi l’ultima possibilità negoziale per dargli uno sbocco sulla base di un rinnovato accordo.
OBIETTIVI
Come associazione improntata a un’informazione libera, trasparente e coerente con le esigenze della società civile, PlanetNext ritiene di dovere essere presente a Doha dal 28 novembre all’8 dicembre prossimi per coprire dal punto di vista giornalistico:
- l’aspetto negoziale ufficiale, politico e tecnico della Conferenza – a cura di Daniele Pernigotti;
- le proposte e le soluzioni promosse dal mondo delle organizzazioni internazionali indipendenti e non governative che si riuniscono ai margini della Conferenza per dare voce alle comunità della società globale – a cura di Roberto Tofani.

Riteniamo fondamentale che la nostra presenza sia supportata dal VOSTRO sostegno e contributo perché un’informazione al servizio delle esigenze della società civile può essere sostenuta solo dal basso, garantendo spazio e visibilità ad argomenti spesso ignorati dalla stampa mainstream e mirando, allo stesso tempo, a spingere i mass media ‘tradizionali’ a darci ascolto e a riprendere i nostri temi.
CHI SIAMO
Daniele PERNIGOTTI: autore di libri sul tema ambientale, (‘La nuova UNI EN ISO 14001’; ‘Come affrontare i cambiamenti climatici’; ‘Il Clima’; ‘Carbon footprint. Calcolare e comunicare l’impatto dei prodotti sul clima’). Opera con un proprio studio di consulenza -Aequilibria- su un ampio spettro di servizi per le aziende e gli enti pubblici e rappresenta l’Italia in diversi tavoli tecnici (ISO, EA, Commissione europea) in materia di gas serra. Daniele è inoltre giornalista free-lance esclusivamente in materia di cambiamento climatico; follower dei negoziati dell’UNFCCC dal 2006, nel 2009 è a Copenaghen insieme al collega e amico Roberto Tofani per seguire i lavori della COP15. Roberto TOFANI: giornalista multimediale free lance. Dal 2004 vive e lavora per lunghi periodi in Sudest Asia, scegliendo Hanoi come seconda casa. Immerso in una delle regioni del pianeta che più paga gli effetti dei cambiamenti climatici, Roberto ne ha seguito lo sviluppo sotto il profilo politico, economico e sociale, collaborando con giornali, riviste su carta e web, radio e organizzazioni non governative, sia italiane che internazionali. Condivide impressioni, riflessioni e ricerche sul suo blog (www.sudestasiatico.com). All’inizio del 2011, con un gruppo di colleghi, fonda PlanetNext, un’Associazione giornalistica senza fini di lucro che ha base a Vienna e si prefigge di Informare per cambiare. Sin dall’inizio di questa nuova avventura, Daniele offre il proprio contributo all’associazione curando i temi di cui è esperto.

BLOG
- A partire dal primo novembre, i due autori, coadiuvati dalla redazione di PlanetNext, offriranno un resoconto dedicato alla COP18 per dare al lettore, con puntualità e tempismo, gli strumenti necessari a seguire i lavori e a orientarsi fra i temi al centro del dibattito, le mille sigle delle organizzazioni e gli infiniti riferimenti a norme e accordi internazionali. L’attività giornalistica, imperniata su un flusso di notizie scritte e testi di analisi, sarà corredata e arricchita da foto, servizi video e, perché no, anche fumetti!
- Dal 25 novembre all’8 dicembre, grazie al VOSTRO sostegno, i due autori potranno seguire da Doha i lavori del negoziato, dando eco in presa diretta anche a impressioni, opinioni e valutazioni, attraverso la voce dei protagonisti della Conferenza e dei rappresentanti delle comunità interessate.
La gestione del Blog sarà curata e sviluppata in associazione a una campagna dedicata sui principali Social Network (#COP18 #pnextdoha #pnextcop18): Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Linkedin.

Climate change and Information: PlanetNext to Doha COP18
This year the Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)–in which the delegations of the member countries of the United Nations will meet to discuss and possibly ratify agreements on how to deal with climate change–will be held in Doha (Qatar) from November 26 – December 7, 2012. Simultaneously with the Conference, as has occurred regularly since 2005, the eighth edition of Meetings of Parties of the Kyoto Protocol (MOP) will also be held .
Signed in 1997 in Kyoto, the Protocol is the only binding international treaty on climate. It has not yet been ratified by the Parliaments of a sufficient number of signatory countries so that, barring last minute developments, it will expire in 2013. Doha is thus a last chance for negotiations aimed at renewing an agreement.
Following its commitment to provide information about long-term global trends like climate change and sustainable development, PlanetNext want to be present in Doha from Nov. 28to Dec. 7 with two of its members: Daniele PERNIGOTTI and Roberto TOFANI, to report on world leaders, keyplayers, civil society representatives and experts.

WHO WE ARE
- “PlanetNext: information for change” is an association of multimedia journalists, editors, communication experts, geopolitics and human security analysts and consultants on international cooperation programs. Its members share the vision that information influences the decision-making process at all levels, and believe that what is urgently needed is a reassessment of the role played by the information industry in the move towards a more equitable and sustainable world.
- Daniele PERNIGOTTI is a freelance journalist on climate changes, author of books on environmental issues (‘The New UNI EN ISO 14001, Practical Guide for Developing and Implementing an Environmental Management System’; ‘How to Tackle Climate Change’; ‘Climate’, ‘Carbon Footprint: Calculate and Communicate the Impact of Climate Products’). As an ‘Observer of the UNFCCC negotiations since 2006, Daniele covered the COP15 (Copenhagen – 2009) together with Roberto TOFANI for Italian newspapers, press agencies and radio stations.
- Roberto TOFANI is a multimedia journalist. Since 2004 he has been living and traveling in Southeast Asia, one of the regions that more directly feels the effects of climate change. Roberto has been covering political, economic, environmental and social issues, reporting for a variety of Italian and international newspapers, magazines, web agencies, radio stations and non-governmental organizations.
BLOG
1. From November, the two reporters, assisted by the editors of PlanetNext, will provide coverage of the COP18 in order to offer readers, in a timely manner, the necessary tools to navigate through the issues at the heart of the debate, and to understand the countless technical references to standards and agreements. The journalistic activity, based on a news feed and analytical pieces, will be accompanied and enriched by photos and video services.
2. From November 28 to December 8, thanks to YOUR support, the authors will then follow the proceedings of the Doha negotiations, offering impressions, opinions and insights through the voice of the protagonists of the Conference and civil society representatives.
