Since information influences the decision-making process at all levels, we believe that what is urgently needed is timely and objective information intended to facilitate change towards a more equitable and sustainable world. The recent financial crisis has hopefully taught us that greed should not be allowed to form the basis for public or private policies, that the risks inherent in speculation and easy profit are ultimately carried by society at large. In short, what is needed is a more balanced relationship between public and private, between economic growth and social justice, between the politics of development and tools of finance. Each and everyone of us, alone or organized within civil associations, must take responsibility for achieving these goals.
In this perspective, PlanetNext’s mission is to produce, select, analyse and distribute information capable of promoting a debate on issues like sustainable development or the relation between ethics and finance, as well as facilitating informed decisions in the direction of a more sustainable future. Data, facts and opinions proliferate in the mass media and on the internet, but, in order to be incisive, they need to be filtered, organized and articulated in a transparent and objective manner, with reference to the social, cultural and economic issues pertaining to our planet.
